"Darlington's setting in the fascinating world of antiquarian bookselling is clever..."
"Fans of faith-based novels will enjoy Darlington's modern twist on the parable of the Prodigal Son."
"...has the right amount of good versus evil and tension-building suspense. Darlington makes it easy to follow along with all the twists of sisterhood and forgiveness."
--RT Times Book Review, 4 Star Rating
"In this beautifully spun Christian novel, the tale of two estranged sisters awkwardly trying to find their way back to each other with a little help from above unfolds. Even readers who tend to shy away from the Christian genre will feel drawn to this well-crafted story of forgiveness, love and acceptance."
--Jeanna Sciarrotta, Children's Literature Review
" Thicker than Blood is a beautiful masterpiece."
--Lori Twichell, FictionAddict.com
"Thicker than Blood is everything Christian fiction should be. It's well written, peopled by flawed characters, fueled by themes of family, loss, redemption, and forgiveness."
--Eric Wilson, NY Times best-selling author
"Thicker than Blood is an exciting, page-turning novel by CJ Darlington. Through the main character, Christy Williams, the reader will learn ways to deal with issues of emotional and physical abuse-- issues that run rampant in our society. It also is a tender story of sacrifice and family reconciliation."
--Susan Osborn, Director of the Christian Communicator Manuscript Critique Service and author of 30 books.
"Relationships broken by time and choices, lives trapped in the turmoil of addictions and abuse, and the power of redemptive love all collide in this compelling work.”
--Homeschooling Today Magazine, Marti Pieper
"With complex characterisation and authenticity, CJ gives readers a book that satisfies the soul and evokes heartfelt emotions as Christy attempts to deal with past transgressions and May desperately seeks a way to forgive."
"This is a story of hope and redemption, the triumph of the human spirit over evil, and the joy found by believers in the love of God. Without a doubt it’s well written, but it also expanded my world."
--The Christian Pulse
"C.J. Darlington addressed some gritty issues in this debut novel: the stubbornness of main character Christy's addiction and the frustrating, self-destructive cycle of an abusive relationship. Darlington also created a contrast character in Christy's sister, May. I especially enjoyed how C.J. wove in Scripture without sounding pious or simplistic. That's not easy to do! Book lovers will enjoy this behind-the-scenes look into the world of antique book collecting. Nice work, C.J. Can't wait for her next book!
--Suzanne W. Fisher, author of The Choice
"I loved this story and especially the unique settings I found myself in as the reader. It allowed me to spend time in old bookstores becoming familiar with interesting titles, and later, on a horse and cattle ranch helping to birth new calves and riding along snowy mountain trails. It also had a twist of suspense that was written so well I stayed up until 2am. The characters were believable and likable, except, of course for the villian (believable but not likable), who reminded me of the type of character that Mary Higgins Clark would have come up with ---and C.J. Darlington wrote his part just as well as Higgins!"
--Renee Riva, author of the Saving Sailor Trilogy
" ...a deep tale of love between sisters and God."
--Harriet Klausner, #1 Amazon.com reviewer
" ...a fine, fine debut novel."
--Roxanne Henke, author of On a Someday & Learning to Fly
"Action, suspense, emotion, enduring hope--this book has it all!"
--Candace Calvert, author of Critical Care
C.J. Darlington knows the value of old books on the shelf. Now she proves she can craft a great story with heart and soul. The characters here feel real to me, with all of their brokenness and heartache. It didn't hurt that C.J. chose some of my old stomping grounds to set the story. She got it right. I can't wait for her next work of fiction.
--Chris Fabry, author of June Bug & Dogwood
"The writing is strong, the characters are quirky and keep you reading just to see what they’ll do next... a great read!"
